Europe: 13 million tablets will be sold in 2011, Apple dominant

13 million tablets in 2011 should be sold in Europe, a market where Apple iPad will remain dominant with 70% of sales, but in a less favorable position than in the U.S. where it has a dense sales network, according to Forrester.

For his study, published on Thursday, Forrester surveyed 13,886 adult Internet users living in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, seven countries with a total population of 342.4 million people, according to calculations cabinet.

3% of respondents indicate that they already have a tablet, “which amounts to 10.3 million people,” he told AFP analyst Sarah Rotman Epps, author of the study.

Games for mobile phones and tablets: the turnover of Gameloft up 15% in H1

The French publisher of video games Gameloft has seen its turnover increase by 15.3% year on year in the first half, to 76.8 million euros, despite a slowdown in growth from April to June due of the weak dollar, he said on Monday.

After sales up 19.6% in first quarter (39.5 million euros), the group recorded an increase in turnover of 11.3% in the second quarter, 37.4 million euros.

“The weak dollar negatively impact sales for the quarter since at constant exchange rates, growth in the second quarter was 16%,” the group wrote in a statement.

The Finnish group Nokia has lost its number one global market smartphones in favor of Apple and Samsung in the second quarter 2011, according to a report from research firm Strategy Analytics U.S. on Friday.

In the growing field of smart phones that record sales of 110 million units in the second quarter, up 76.3% year on year, sales volume of South Korean Samsung and its U.S. rival Apple surpassed that of Nokia, said the firm.

“Four years after the marketing of the first iPhone, Apple is now the largest seller of smartphones in the world by volume,” the report said.
