Cuba: Castro proposes to limit to 10 years political mandates

Cuban President Raul Castro on Saturday proposed a limit of two five times the length of the main mandates of politicians, in his opening address at the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).

“We came to the conclusion that it was advisable to limit to a maximum of two consecutive five year term of office of state policies and fundamentals,” the president said before the 1,000 convention delegates, the first since 1997.

This measure, he said, aims to “ensure a systematic rejuvenation of the entire chain of responsibility” within the government.
