Legislative Kyrgyz nationalists leading but not winning

The nationalist opposition party Ata-Jourt arrived slightly ahead of legislative elections in Kyrgyzstan, according to results released Monday, but no clear majority emerged is polling in this country beset by divisions and accustomed to violence.
The president of this former Soviet republic in Central Asia, Rosa Otunbayeva, welcomed the first free elections in his country since its independence from the USSR.

The nationalist opposition party Ata-Jourt arrived slightly ahead of legislative elections in Kyrgyzstan, a country that has been the scene of serious ethnic violence, according to the results for 95.24% of polling stations released Monday by the Electoral Commission.
Ata-Jourt, which is under investigation for incitement to hatred, has received the votes of 8.69% of registered voters, the Commission detailing its results based on registered electors on the electoral roll and not in relation voters.
No projections in terms of seats have yet been published.

Ar-Namys party of former Prime Minister Felix Kulov, pro-Russian was leading with 22.1% of the vote in Sunday’s parliamentary Kyrgyzstan, according to a survey conducted at the exit polls published by the site of www.centrasia.ru specialized information.
“I’m sure of the victory of my party. If my winning bid will be presented for the post of prime minister,” said Mr Kulov, a former general and former prime minister backed by Moscow in favor of returning to a regime strong presidency.
