Religion in Kyrgyzstan

From November 1996 to June 1, 2008 in Kyrgyzstan, there were 2,168 religious sites. Of these, 1,791 objects of Islamic trends or 82.61% of the total number of registered religious objects.

Prior to 1991, in Kyrgyzstan, there were 3-4 of religious trends, mainly of traditional religions – Islam and Orthodox Christianity.

Officially operated are 39 mosques, 25 churches and parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church. If you have previously acted in 5 directions of Christianity – Baptists, Adventists, Pentecostals, the community of Catholics and Jehovah’s Witnesses, then today in Kyrgyzstan are more than 30 branches.

The Islamic faiths are coordinated and guided by the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan , having in its structure kazyyatov 9, 1674, mosque, 8 higher religious education institutions, 7 institutes, 50 madrasas, 49 foundations and 3 missions of foreign faiths of Islam, with the largest number of mosques ( 76.14%) are in the south.

Total number of students enrolled in Islamic religious schools is more than 2,866 people; most of them are studying in the south.

In Kyrgyzstan, operating 311 Protestant religious facilities, including Baptists – 49, lyuteranty – 21, Pentecostals – 53, Adventists – 31, 24 missions overseas denominations of Christianity.
