The doctors’ union, the Bloc, a majority among surgeons, anesthetists and obstetricians, said on Wednesday the changing burdens of these specialists in response to health insurance who had denounced the day before the “drift” of excess fees.
According to Philippe Cuq, co-chair of the union and himself a surgeon, the reimbursement rates for Social Security to surgeons for their actions have changed very little in 30 years, while the cost of professional practice, including new high-tech devices have increased significantly.
“We were left with frozen rates, we said ‘go with the sector 2 (practitioners practicing fee-free, ie) with additional fees + and now everyone complains about it,” he told AFP.
“Unfortunately (overruns) are there, they meet an economic need and if we had not had surgery in sector 2, it would have been a disaster for public health because it has maintained an extraordinary level of quality in France, all of which he must take into account, “he added.
For example, Mr. Cuq said that the price paid to surgeons on the treatment of varicose veins was 167 euros in 1990 and only 178 in 2011, an increase of 6.6% in 20 years.
He said that the rate for lead artery, urgent operation and putting the patient’s life at stake, a surgeon receives health insurance and it touches 215 euros 25 euros extra if such intervention takes place at night or during Sunday or holiday.
But the union noted surgeon, “in an emergency we do not have additional fees.
Mr. Cuq said that the charges for a surgeon represent 60% of its gross fees and charges in these insurance premiums for professional liability (RCP) are quite heavy.
The question of CPR and soaring medical insurance premiums (resulting from strong growth in patient complaints) is a major problem for practitioners in the operating room. It has been reported to Health Minister Xavier Bertrand but was not resolved so far.
