A 4 year old boy died in the night from Friday to Saturday with meningitis fulminating type C Beauvois-en-Cambrai (North), said on Tuesday from the Regional Health Agency (LRA).
The child was enrolled in kindergarten de Beauvois-en-Cambresis.
Nearly 130 people – 100 in school and thirty in the family circle – having been in contact with the child have been supported to benefit from antibiotic treatment and vaccination.
In autumn 2010, several cases of meningitis C were observed in students from the Catholic University of Lille. A campaign of vaccination and prevention was launched from the student community to raise awareness to this disease.
According to health authorities, there are approximately 600 cases of meningitis (type B or C) each year in France, some fifty deaths.
